Nowadays, a common viewpoint is that international integration has influenced the world greatly in several different ways such as: society, industry, economy, Polity and even your life. For example: you are living in London, but your food may come from New Zealand, your clothes may made in China, your shoes may come from Vietnam and your car may be from Japan, even a France company pay your salary and so forth. So whether you admit or not, globalization is becoming the hottest topic in the world. To globalize, can it bring us benefits or disadvantages? Many people believe that international integration will show unprecedented progress and prosperity. However the meaning of international integration does not end of here, “Globalization is also blamed for many of the ills of the modern world” (Steve Schifferes, 2008). This essay will firstly discuss the positive and negative of international integration and secondly find out the beneficial at human resources area.
Globalization has shown an enormous impact on society, everyone could access a broader house, more electrical appliances, own cars, the right to go on vacation and so forth. On the other hand, large-scale and intensive production means to cause a lot of excess labor and excess products. It is estimated that, in accordance with the existing market and technology trends in the near future, only 20% of the workforce would be sufficient, while 80% of the people will become "superfluous", this community will bring tremendous economic, political and mental stress, according to Steve Schifferes (2007). The international integration of the explosive economic growth also caused a growing disparity between the rich and the poor. People in rich countries, they need to spend a lot of money to lose weight because of excess nutrients and anguish, however, in many parts of the world a lot of people die because of lack of food and malnutrition.
With the development of science and technology, the pace of globalization is accelerating. People are deeply affected by the trend of globalization in present-day society. Science and technology, particularly in computers and the Internet as the core of information technology for cross-border economic activities and cultural activities, it provided a powerful material basis for the realization of the world's resources, labor, technology and capital allocation, the maximization of profits may be provided. However, modern science and technology to promote monetary and become the main force flow of goods, a large number of cross-border companies trade directly on the Internet, in order to avoid huge tariffs; more and more international speculative capital from the production of free material out of the way in a variety of speculative profiteering. The Internet, without time limit currency and stock transactions, and such transactions often have nothing to do with the actual production, which greatly contribute to the social atmosphere of speculation. Today, in an instant flow of capital around the world to get 100 trillion U.S. dollars, like powerful hurricane, can destroy a country or a region's economy.
Particularly in human resource management, globalization has resulted in a far-reaching impact. Globalization, those who initiated the globalization of the country itself can not escape the domination of the capital market, the rise in wages and benefits lead to lower profits, many corporations have to shift production overseas. Capital ruthless enable these countries to reduce the national standard of living, give up the traditional political commitment to social equality, reducing old-age pensions, medical insurance, social welfare and education spending, if the Governments fail to do so they would face additional financial crisis, The lack of competitiveness of domestic products, but if the Governments do so, it will also inspire various social contradictions.
In today's business world, people are experiencing globalization as a fish does water, the stuff we swim in day after day. International experience has become extremely important. Companies can no longer get away with loosely connected groups operating in the business in the rest of the world; it must be a strategic integration of their activities. As Ian Mitroff said only enterprises, industries, and the whole community to understand the new rules of doing business in the world economy would flourish. Global competition has forced executives to recognize that they must think about different management ways. As a global company, the only way to succeed is to build an effective global human resources management staff system with the design and implementation of translational business strategies.
Benefiting from globalization, transnational corporations located manufacturing plants overseas in order to get cheaper labor costs and offer job opportunities to Developing countries. For example APPLE has become a "virtual firms” they outsourcing most of their Products to other enterprises, maximum in Asia like India and China. However the effect of globalization on HR area does not end here. A recent poll by Deloitte in November 2006 showed a sharp increase in worries about outsourcing of white collar jobs in the UK. Just 13% said it could be good things, compared to 29% in January, and the public at 82% believed many jobs have been sent abroad already, and 32% wanted to force companies to bring jobs back to UK.
As globalization has progressed, significantly changed have took place in virtually all countries. The influence of globalization has permeated many aspects of social and economic life. It brings great advantages and disadvantages as well of the human resources area. What we must do is to make sure that the advantages are encouraged and the disadvantages are eliminated as far as possible.
